DIF Fencing is the leading epee fencing club Sweden, with roughly 200 members and two fencing halls. The club is home to several Olympians as well as World Championship medallists, and top athletes within Swedish Modern Pentathlon. A majority of the fencers of the Swedish National epee team, both men and women, fence at the club, as well as some of the best cadet and junior epee fencers in Sweden.  The club has high ambitions to develop fencers at all levels.

We are looking for a new Epee Coach to continue to cultivate world-class male and female fencers. You will be working closely with the trainer team, including the children’s group responsible, the junior coaches and the sport manager. We are looking for a committed team player, who is passionate about fencing, but also wants to develop the individual athlete as well as the club. The club has a Hungarian fencing tradition so a coach from a similar system is preferred, but we are keen to find the right person in terms of coaching experience and personal fit.

Main responsibilities:

  • Arrange trainings: arranging fencing trainings, mainly for cadets, junior and seniors but at times younger children. Mostly in the evenings (16:00-20:00), as well as some mornings
  • Individual lessoning and coaching: head coach for 10-20 fencers, primarily cadets and juniors, giving lessons, helping in individual season planning, and athletic development
  • Competitions and training camps: planning and responsible leader for competitions and training camps where DIF fencers participate
  • Cooperation with the training team and sport manager: including scheduling work, some administrative tasks such as helping with grant applications
  • Engagement and youth trainers: develop engagement, participation and commitment in the club. This includes close contact with the youth trainers of the club, such as educating and giving feedback

  • Relevant coaching experience or certified fencing coach, degree in sports science preferred
  • Experience with working with and developing fencers of different levels
  • Social skills and high level of willingness to work as a team with other trainers and athletes
  • English verbal communication at least at an intermediate level, willingness to learn Swedish preferred

Personal profile

  • Passionate about fencing
  • Warm, welcoming and empathetic
  • Strong sense of leadership
  • Appropriate behaviour in the training hall and competitions
  • Can take own responsibility over daily work
  • Willing to work with both boys and girls of different levels and ambitions
  • Eager to share knowledge of fencing with athletes but also the junior coaches at the club

  • 50%-100% employment, decided upon agreement
  • Salary: to be determined, depending on experience
  • Fixed term employment until 30.06.2022, with possibility to prolong
  • Start in August/September 2021, 3 months probationary period
  • Some help with accommodation could be arranged

  • Please send application (CV + personal letter) including athletic background and results, your education and coaching experience, as well as your salary requirements
